Transition period has ended for 2023 Building Code updates

In November 2023 MBIE published updated acceptable solutions and verification methods which support plumbing and drainage work, and protection from fire. A transition period of one year was provided when both the previous and new versions of the documents could be used.

2023/016: Whether showers constructed without inbuilt seating or handrails comply with clause G1.3.4 of the Building Code

This determination considers whether alterations to a building, undertaken during the internal fit out of a wellness centre, comply to the extent required by the Building Act 2004. Specifically, it considers whether the showers in the float rooms, which have been constructed without inbuilt seating or handrails, comply with clause G1.3.4 of the Building Code. Clause G1.3.4 requires that personal hygiene facilities provided for disabled people are accessible.

The determination considers whether the building work was exempt from the requirement to obtain a building consent under Schedule 1, and whether adequate particulars were set out in the notice to fix (in regards to both section 40 and section 17). It also discusses several issues relating to the notice to fix framework.
