Step 4: BCA determines whether the proposed alteration complies with the requirements

BCAs consider the full building consent application to determine if it complies with the alterations requirements of section 112 or 133ATof the Building Act. 

Subject to other building consent requirements being met also, BCAs approve or decline the application. It is important they ensure thorough decision-making records are filed.

If there is disagreement about the decision of whether or not to grant a building consent, a determination may be applied for.
