Financial Assistance Package for weathertight claims

Last updated: 8 March 2019

The Financial Assistance Package (FAP) was a 5-year scheme to offer eligible homeowners the certainty of a financial contribution towards repairing their leaky dwelling.

Note: applications to bring a claim under the Weathertight Homes Resolution Services Act 2006 can no longer be received after 31 December 2021.

The scheme was designed to encourage the repair of homes and offered a 25 percent financial contribution from the government towards eligible repair costs. In addition, where councils were participating in the scheme, claimants could receive an additional 25 per cent of eligible repair costs from the council.

The FAP scheme began on 23 July 2011 and expired on 23 July 2016. New claims received after this date cannot access the scheme. (Note: As 23 July was a Saturday, claims could be received up until midnight on Monday 25 July 2016.)

Existing claims

Claimants with an existing eligible claim under the Weathertight Homes Resolution Services Act, who are taking reasonable steps to progress their claim, can still access FAP contributions after 23 July 2016. Contact your claims advisor to check on progress and the likely timing of FAP contributions.
