New EPB resources now available

Posted: 28 February 2018

New resources are now available online for building owners affected by earthquake-prone building (EPB) legislation and council staff responsible for identifying and making decisions on potentially EPBs.

MBIE's new Building Performance online learning website has three learning modules currently available:

  • Identify (identifying potentially earthquake-prone buildings)
  • Decide (deciding if buildings are earthquake prone)
  • Building owners (understanding your responsibilities under the new system).

The Identify and Decide modules are based on workshops presented by EPB experts last year and are interactive, with opportunities to test knowledge and understanding. They are a refresher for officials and engineers who attended the workshops and a training supplement for people who couldn’t go.

The Building owners module guides building owners through the process to follow if they are told their building may be earthquake prone.

The online learning site offers flexible, widely accessible learning on building legislation and regulations. Learners can access the website from work or home at a time that is convenient for them.

The site is expected to gain more modules over the next 12 months, which will be of interest to a wider audience of building practitioners.

learning.building.govt.nz has the modules and further information – you will need to log in using your Real Me login. You will also need to register your details the first time you do a module.
