Decisions from the Government are expected by the end of 2019, with any legislative changes likely to be rolled out over the next two to five years.
The reform programme proposes a number of legislative changes across five key areas of building law. The aim is to deliver safe and durable buildings, a high-performing building sector, and an efficient regulatory system.
A total of 470 submissions were received from people and organisations across the building and construction sector. The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) also worked directly with key sector groups during the consultation period to seek their feedback and perspectives.
MBIE will publish a summary of the submissions as soon as possible, and continue to provide periodic updates on progress with the reform programme.
You can find more information about the reforms, including the discussion document, on the MBIE website.
